Well, Obama always wanted to be a "consensus President" and get the left and right to overcome their differences. Maybe he's finally done it.

Infidel~ Quite an accomplishment.

Many republicans are backing his surge plan, some democrats aren't. I have lots of doubt. Lots.

Maybe he has one eye on Pakistan because it is a bigger potential mess than Afghanistan, a mess with nuclear bombs.

Holte~ Pakistan is a huge mess... it boggles the mind on how we're going to get out of this mess.

Yep! There is some truth here.

I was thinking of how LBJ tried to pacify the conservatives with Vietnam while pushing his domestic agenda... Too bad he didn't come up with a timetable.

sage~ I'm encouraged by Prez O's timetable.

I only hope that he sticks to his timetable. The pentagon is representing that it's "condition based".

TomCat~ I can respect that it would have to be "condition based".

btw, your Santa outfit is the cat's meow! :o)

This fictional timetable makes no sense at all.
Full escalation will not be completed until the late fall of 2010. So 6 months later he is going to DRAW DOWN. Come on folks this is a bait and switch. Gates already mentioned not even 72 hours after the speech it will be based on conditions on the ground. Gates, and Shillary are saying NO time line. Obama is saying there is one. Think of what draw down actually means.

Reality~ At least they took time to debate this... chen-head called it 'dithering'. That's more than W did when he got us into EYE-RACK.
