Karl Rove said when it comes to terrorism,
Democrats all live in a pre-9/11 world and
Republicans all live in a post-9/11 world, DUH!

Funny how things come full circle. I'm not exuberant about the port deal myself because I don't know that Moslems are ready for the carrot, yet. Perhaps if it had been presented better I'd feel differently.

That said, I think I'd still take my changes with the Reps than the Dems when it comes to national security.

Of course we live in a pre-9/11 world.

Remember August 7, 1998? That was the day that bin Laden attacked the African embassies. Bill Clinton tried to get bin Laden on August 18, 1998, and chose that day because a number of senior al-Qaeda officials were meeting in Afghanistan. True, he missed (not like Bush has had any success getting the guy either) but what were Republicans doing that day? Why, complaining about the missile strike because it knocked Monica off the front page. Why, forget about hitting them back after the embassy bombings, nothing was so important as to distract from the all-important Monica scandal!

Pre-9/11, it was Democrats, not Republicans, who took Osama bin Laden seriously?

And post 9/11? Well, let's see. In February 1999, six months after the embassy bombings, officials from the United Arab Emirates entertained Osama bin Laden while they were at a hunting camp in Afghanistan (obviously also there with the blessings of the Taliban, who then controlled Afghanistan). We consider that anyone who had bin Laden over as a dinner guest (this was detailed in the 9/11 report), at a time when it was very clear what his agenda was, just maybe shouldn't be involved with moving things into the country through our ports.

So, post 9/11, Democrats are living in the same world as before 9/11, one where we take Osama bin Laden seriously. Republicans are too-- a world where terrorism shouldn't be prioritized over their doing business as usual.

The whole notion just scares the crap outta me. You know who would do a great job with our ports?

Let's give that one to India too.

I wonder if George feels picked on. (My God, he is absolutely brainless. Sign him up for the Wizard of Oz.)
