'MUSIC: SOUNDING OFF ON BUSH'...

"Mr. President, how do you sleep at night while the rest of us cry?" asks Pink on her new album, "I'm Not Dead." George W. Bush has yet to answer the pop star's question, but he may as well brace himself: Pink's acoustic number is part of an anti-establishment avalanche in music, and this time it's personal. The protest songs of the Vietnam era railed against the war and The Man, but the new wave of dissent is aimed directly at Bush. On his new album, Neil Young sings, "Let's impeach the president, for hijacking our religion and using it to get elected/Dividing our country into colors, and still leaving black people neglected"...

Kudos to puddle for the pic!

i heard a great review of neil young's new "album" (guess they don't call 'em that anymore...) on NPR last week, which included an excerpt of his "let's impeach the president song". inspirational!

when bush first took office, i was very surprised by the real lack in questioning/challenging/etc. by the people i most expected to hear from. it was almost as tho' dems/liberals/anyone-not republican had lost his/her ability to speak up. and god knows the administration did a great job of shutting down the press for quite a little while. that's why i'm so happy the see return to that 60's "don't believe everything your government tells you" kind of sensibility... (funny how some of the "old" voices of protest, like young and dylan, are leading the way, isn't it?)

this country was built on the premise that we must question everything... and change that which we are not happy with. so i say "go pink. and go neil young. and america, get up off your collective asses, and lend your voice to this "new" sensibility!"

thanks for helpin' to kick my brain out of "neutral" this morning, karen! : D

I love the picture!!! I don't know what it is about Rice, but I can't stand her. I can't even name anything specific.

If I had a hammer...

To be honest, I'm starting to feel like we are in the sixties all over again. War? check. Poverty? check. Government spying? check. People upon whose backs this country is running every day finally speaking out and demanding basic human rights? check.

To be honest, this sort of sucks because it makes me feel like the lessons of the sixties were never learned, which is why we are back there again.

But there is an old saying in college-- those who do not learn their history are condemned to repeat it.
